Lauren was born and raised in California but comes from a family of Salvadoran immigrants. She has been inspired by strong women and mothers for as long as she can remember, especially her own mother. From a young age, she was passionate about women’s health and knew she would one day pursue a career working with mothers and babies.
She graduated high school in 2018 and began studying pre-nursing at CSU Channel Islands. She was then admitted into their high-ranking nursing program in 2020. Entering the field during the peak of COVID-19 was challenging, but Lauren was able to make a difference in many patients’ hospital stays during those uncertain times.
Lauren connected with Pure Births in search of clinical experiences in the maternal-child health setting. She had no idea how quickly she would fall in love with holistic pregnancy care and midwifery practice. Lauren was able to take her knowledge from the Pure Births/midwifery model of care and advocate for moms delivering in the hospital during her labor and delivery rotation in nursing school.
Lauren graduated in 2023 with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). She hopes to get a nursing job in labor and delivery and continue to advocate for mothers to have control over their births and bodies in the hospital. She also plans to continue assisting with births because of how much she loves the Pure Births community and learning alongside the midwives. She is continuously inspired by the way they empower women through their care.
Lauren plans to eventually pursue her master's degree in nursing practice and become a CNM (Certified Nurse Midwife). She feels she has found her calling in the world of midwifery and is eager to further her education in this area of practice.
When she’s not studying for her next exam or helping out at Pure Births, Lauren enjoys cooking plant-based foods, spending time with her family, traveling, and reading.
Lauren’s favorite birth quote is “it is not just the making of a baby, but also the making of a mother that is the miracle of birth.”
